VEHICLE ADVISORY (updated for this season): Motorized vehicles are only permitted on the southern section of the Beach, and then only by permit. Lifeguard vehicles are the only motorized craft permiited on the water or sand anywhere along the Beach. SMALL One and two person watercraft are permitted on the water, as long as they are not powered by motor, and stay within the guidelines of the park & lifeguards on duty. LARGE watercraft (motorized or not) are only permitted beyond the border of the Underwater Park. Non-Motorized land craft of any size ARE permitted anywhere along the beach.

SAFETY ADVISORY (updated for this season): Even this early in the season, there are too many people trying to walk the steep trails, which have been damaged severly by recent rains (loosening the soil & rocks). The rangers and lifeguards STRONGLY ADVISE: DO NOT attempt these trails, as long as warning signs are posted. The ONLY recommended entrances to the beach are as follows...(1.) The PAVED WALKWAY leading down from the La Jolla Farms Road entrance at the south end of the beach (just north of the pier)---ample free parking along La Jolla Farms Rd, and bus stop at that corner, main campus of UCSD--...(2.) Walking (a longer, but more level distance) from the north via Torrey Pines State Beach (the next beach up)---pay parking only---WARNING: there have been several serious injuries and two difficult rescues from the trails on the side of the cliffs here this month alone (12-98). No one has been injured from the approved entrances described here. For your own safety and enjoyment, please take the few extra minutes (and the little effort) to walk the additional distance from either the north or south. You'll have more fun, and won't risk a NIGHTMARE on your visit to this spectacular nature park. One last tip for safety: take water down to the beach with you: no drinking water is available here, since it is a protected environmental area. MOST OF ALL, HAVE A GOOD TIME !
