INTRODUCTION TO BLACK'S BEACH

and Torrey Pines State Park, Beach and Reserve

Black's Beach is bordered on the north by Torrey Pines City & State beaches, and to the east & northeast by Torrey Pines State Reserve, Glider Port & State Park.

It is bordered to the south by Scripps Pier & La Jolla Shores Beach, on the east by The Salk Institute: just southeast are the Birch Aquarium and Scripps Institute of Oceanography.

All of that can be seen HERE (Black's near top) from La Jolla Area Surfing map by Franko's Maps...

NOTE: The Underwater Canyons and Marine Life Refuge locations shown (as described further below), as well as ocean depths (in feet) and average water temps (in F.) at Scripps Pier, southern border of Black's...

Below is the view from Black's at the south entrance: That's the paved road walkway leading down from Blackgold Road.
In the distance you can see the food tents, in the sky a glider, and on the hill a famously expensive house (bought for $16 million in 1999) peeks out over the edge !

Photo below is a south-facing view of the entire beach, taken from above the next beach to the north, Torrey Pines.
